Course description:

What does a Domestic Energy Do?

A domestic energy assessor (DEA) in the UK plays a critical role in assessing the energy performance of residential properties. Their main responsibilities include:

  1. Conducting Assessments: The DEA visits homes to collect data on dimensions, construction, heating and hot water systems, and insulation. This information helps in evaluating the property’s energy efficiency.
  2. Producing EPCs: Using the data collected, the DEA generates an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). The EPC rates the energy efficiency of the property on a scale from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient) and suggests measures to improve efficiency. This certificate is mandatory when selling or renting out a property.
  3. Advising Homeowners: Beyond just assessing and certifying, DEAs often advise homeowners or potential buyers on how to improve a property’s energy efficiency, which can include suggestions for better insulation, efficient heating systems, or the installation of renewable energy sources.
  4. Regulatory Compliance: DEAs ensure that assessments are compliant with current regulations and standards. They must be accredited and maintain their knowledge and skills according to the latest industry standards.
