Course description:

In a hands-on environment, learn how to install, maintain and repair electrical systems in a number of industrial, commercial, and domestic environments, both indoor and outdoor. Get to grips with how a whole host of different equipment and systems work, ranging from switchboards to motors to crime and fire alarm systems and renewable energy technologies.

You may also contribute to the design of an electrical system, taking it from drawing to reality.

What experience and skills will you gain?

  • You will develop key engineering knowledge, and the skills to apply these in the real world
  • Start with learning the principles for the termination and connection of conductors, cables, and cords in electrical systems
  • Learn how to apply this for installation in buildings and structures, how to inspect and test these systems, and how to diagnose and correct any faults there may be
  • Plus, learn how to design these systems, and maintain them to a high, safe standard
  • You will also develop transferable skills for any workplace, such as working effectively both alone and in a team, communicating clearly, and task management.

What do you need to Apply?

You will be expected to have at least 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English, Maths (or their equivalent).

If you do not hold GCSE English or maths you may be able to take this along side the programe subject to a an initial assessment.

How will be assessed?

There will be a combination of multiple choice and written exams, portfolio work, interviews and practical assessments.

Two awarding organisations have assisted in the production of a joint assessment strategy for a new qualification, Level 3 Electro-technical Qualification, (Installation or Maintenance), which must be completed as part of this apprenticeship.
