Course description:

By completing the programme, you’ll earn the Level 3 Award in Energy Awareness - an industry-recognised qualification that allows you to offer official energy advice. You’ll also have the chance to gain the Level 2 Award in Fuel Debt Advice in the Community, which equips you to support people dealing with, or at risk of, fuel debt.

Time commitment

The programme requires around 50 hours over 6 weeks, which works out to roughly 8.5 hours per week. This includes self-paced learning, assessments, and live sessions.

You’ll also need to attend a 3-day online webinar, held during working hours, with each session lasting 2.5 hours.

Modules covered

You’ll complete a range of modules designed to build your knowledge and confidence as an Energy Advisor:

Intro to Domestic Energy Efficiency (2 hrs)
Provides an overview of basic energy-saving measures, heat loss, and available support.

Delivering High-Quality Energy Advice (2 hrs)
Focuses on identifying vulnerable residents, delivering safe and effective advice, and safeguarding.

Fuel Poverty and Health (2 hrs)
Explores causes of fuel poverty, health impacts, and available grants.

Fuel Debt Advice in the Community( Level 2)(10 hrs, incl. exam)
3-day instructor-led webinar on fuel debt causes, support options, consumer rights, and dealing with energy suppliers.

NEA’s Energy Awareness (Level 3) (33 hrs, incl. exam)
In-depth training on fuel costs, insulation, government aid, and managing condensation and damp.

Prerequisites

To join the programme, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Have access to a computer with a reliable internet connection (the training is fully online)
  • Be available to commit an average of 8.5 hours per week for 6 weeks
  • Reside in England or Wales. Applicants from Northern Ireland and Scotland are not eligible for funded places on this programme.

While not essential, experience in customer-facing, community, or care and support roles can be helpful.
